SafeKids Douglas County
In caring for our community the Pregnancy Resource Center partners with the Douglas SafeKids Coalition. We have two Child Passenger Safety Technicians on our staff and have 10-15 clients complete the Car Seat Safety Classes each month. After completion of this class, these clients are then eligible to purchase a new car seat for $10 cash plus 5 Mommy Dollars (earned through our Earn While You Learn Prenatal and Parenting Program).
Agency Referrals
The Douglas County Courts and the Department of Family and Children's Services refer parents, single mothers and single fathers to the Pregnancy Resource Center for lessons in PROPER parenting. Because the PRC offers a mentoring program where each client is helped on an individual basis and because we offer a curriculum starting with the time a young woman finds out she is pregnant with weekly lessons on the following:
- Prenatal Care
- Childbirth
- Preparing for your Newborn
- The First Year of Life
- Working with Toddlers
- School-Age Children
- Teens
- General Family Relationships
- Discipline, etc.
We are able to help parents with lessons in areas where they have been determined to be deficient. And because the Pregnancy Resource Center does not charge for any of its services, the County Agencies are referring several people to us on a weekly basis. We require them to fill out a Court Referral Form so we will clearly have permission to share information with them.
On a weekly basis, the Department of Juvenile Justice refers teens who are on probation. These teens must complete a six-session course on pregnancy prevention, which consists of information on Sexual Integrity as follows:
- Physical Consequences
- STDs
- Pregnancy
- Infertility
- Emotional Consequences
- Spiritual Consequences
- Role of Character
- Love
- Honesty
- Kindness
- Integrity
- Trust
- Loyalty
- Making The Commitment
